Your Coastal Colour Yarn Guide
I adore the coastal style. Whether it be home decor or my closet, I love it. And it’s definitely because I’m from the Atlantic Coast of Canada.
If you’re located in the United States, think of the Eastern Coast, including Maine, Massachusetts, North Carolina & more!
When we visited Maine almost 10 years ago, I fell in love with Portland, ME because of how much it reminded me of Halifax, NS.
There are plenty of similarities between the 2 countries, as I’m sure you’ve noticed. I adore the Atlantic Coast and want to incorporate MORE pieces throughout my home & closet of the colours that warm me up.
So grab a pen and paper to jot down your favourite yarn!
Here is your guide for finding coastal (Atlantic coast) colours to incorporate into your knits!
East Coast Colour Yarn Guide
White/Off White
Any shade of white will do to represent coastal colours.
From lighthouses, whitecaps, seagulls, to sailboats. There is plenty of representation of white.

Grey
When you think of the coast, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Fog. At least, it is for me.
There is nothing more serene than a foggy morning walk along the beach (bring a hat for your hair!).
Some other grey inspiration is weathered cedar shakes, more seagulls & granite rock.

Red
A great representation of well known food along the Atlantic coast of Canada & the United States is… lobster! Oh how I can’t wait for lobster season.
Other colours that represent red are lighthouses, Lunenburg & red sands of PEI.

When I think of green, I specifically think of the Highlands in Cape Breton.
But there is much more, like the tartans of Atlantic Provinces (with some blue & reds in there too!), seaweed, green gables in PEI, & tall green grass blowing in the wind on the cliffs of Newfoundland.
