I love the east coast. Maybe I’m a little biased as I’m from the east coast. I love to look around my beautiful home province and see the homes, the coastlines, & those foggy mornings as my inspiration for the life I am trying to create.
With that, comes discovering knitting patterns that remind me of home. Whether you’re located in Atlantic Canada or the North Eastern States (Like Maine & Massachusetts), these sweaters will easily remind you of the beautiful rugged coast & those chilly coastal days walking along the sand.

Nautical Cardigan by Cocoon HMS
The Nautical Cardigan is a beautiful artwork. That’s exactly what this stunning sweater is. The stitch work on this cardigan is stunning, with the beautiful landscape of colourful homes on the back & the fisherman & seagulls on the front complete the perfect coastal sweater.
This is an intarsia knitting pattern. It is knitted up with an aran weight yarn and US 0 (2 mm) knitting needles.
Bluenose Jacket by Patons
Whats more east coast than a sweater with the Bluenose on it?
This sweater was published in the late 80s as part of a pattern book inspired by Canada. The knitting pattern is very intricate with the colour details on the back of the sweater and then cables throughout the rest.
It is knitted up with a bulky weight yarn and US 8 (5 mm) & US 10 (6 mm) knitting needles.
Sibilla Sweater by Cookie the Knitter
The Sibilla sweater is also available in a cardigan version, which is just as stunning. This sweater is knitted up holding multiple strands of yarn, turning it into a Aran weight sweater. It’s knitted up using US 9 (5.5 mm) & US 6 (4 mm).
Lace Loop Sweater by Other Loops
The lace loop sweater is a beautiful sweater combining different techniques like colour work and lace. Truthfully, I own this knitting pattern and have yet to knit it up. Maybe I need to finally cast on.
This sweater is knitted up with multiple strands of yarn; 4 strands of fingering weight. 2 are used for the main colour, and 2 used for the stripes. Its knitted up using US 6 (4 mm) & US 4 (3.5 mm).
Mathilda Sweater by StrikkeVorin
The Mathilda Sweater is a beautiful colour work sweater featuring sea creatures like fish or a lobster.
It’s knitted up with a bulky weight yarn and using US 7 (4.5 mm) & US 8 (5 mm) knitting needles. Since this sweater is on the bulky side, you could easily get away with knitting up the sweater in a worsted weight yarn. That’s what I am currently doing!
Cara Cardigan by Le Knit
The Cara Cardigan is a beautiful detailed, cabled knit cardigan that is also available as a sweater. Truthfully, out of all the cable knit sweaters I have come across, this one might be one of the most stunning. The honeycomb detailing on the back, I am obsessed.
It is knitted up with a DK weight yarn and size US 6 knitting needles.
Marseille Sweater by Petite Knit
The Marseille Sweater is a beautiful striped sweater, giving off those coastal, nautical vibes we all love.
If coastal is your style, I would highly suggest this knit sweater. It reminds me of GAP sweaters, with the stripe, nautical feel.
It is knitted up with a DK weight and US 6 (4 mm) & US 2 1/2 (3 mm) knitting needles.
Maine Coast Summer Socks by Summer Less Design Co
The Maine Coast Summer Socks are a beautiful cable knit sock pattern designed from the inspiration of maine. Honestly, the colour of these socks is stunning and I might need a pair in this exact colour.
It is knitted up with fingering weight yarn and US 2 (2.75 mm) knitting needles.
Melange Sweater by Petite Knit
The Melange Sweater has a beautiful speckled look as you knit with 2 different colour strands of yarn. This sweater reminds me of the sweaters my grandmother would wear while walking around her small coastal town in the fall. It has a bit of nostalgia for myself.
It is knitted up with 2 strands of DK weight yarn, both of different colours and US 6 (4 mm) & US 4 (3.5 mm).
August Sweater by Ozetta
The August sweater reminds me of the classic J crew sweater with the rolled collar. Also, as a 90s kid, I love the rolled collar.
It is knitted up in a worsted weight yarn and US 8 (5 mm), US 7 (4.5 mm), & US 5 (3.75 mm) knitting needles.
As someone who is from the east coast, these beautiful knitting patterns remind me of my childhood in the late 90s/easrly 2000s, spending time in small coastal towns in my home province. I invision walking along the shoreline wearing an oversized knit, or draping the garment over my shoulders.
Either way, all these sweaters are beautifully designed and deserve to be casted on as soon as possible.
