5 FREE Winter Knitting Patterns For Babies
A great benefit of knitting baby wear is how quick it can take to knit up since the pieces are a lot smaller than most.
Let’s knit some babywear!
Bearly Bonnet by Pure Stitches
Hats are a must for babies during the winter. While I love toques, I prefer bonnets when it comes to infants. Bonnets will sit on the head and you won’t have to worry about it falling and covering their face, as you would for a toque (or beanie).
The pattern recommends a fingering yarn, but substituting for a sport yarn should also work fine. Ensure whatever yarn you use works well for your project by knitting up a gauge swatch.
It calls for circular needles, sizes US 1 1/2 & US 2 1/2.
This bonnet is available as a free download through Raverly.
Truly Wooly by Drops Yarn
A perfect little suit for a going-home outfit for a winter baby.
This pattern size ranges from premie all the way to 4 years old!
It recommends a DK yarn and circular needles, size US 6, with a cord length of 24″ or 32″.
Caramel Cardigan
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t love this cardigan! I added this pattern to my list of knits to make for my youngest. The broken rib elevates this simple pattern so much.
The pattern calls for a fingering weight yarn with US 1 (2.5mm) & US 2.5 (3mm) circular knitting needles and optional are DPNs.
Check Stitch Set by Patons
Not only is this a pattern of a fun cardigan, but a matching hat too!
This pattern is so simple, yet adorable for those little ones. Especially if you are someone who is more intrigued (like myself) by vintage knitting patterns.
It calls for a DK yarn and knitting needles in sizes US 3 & US 6.
Blue Pebbles by Drops Yarn
Had to add a simple & easy sweater. This sweater may be best to knit for a baby 3 months and older. The reason I say this is the collar.
Most newborn sweaters will have buttons on the front so it’s easier to dress them. However, you can always tailor the sweater to the child’s needs.
The pattern calls for a fingering weight yarn with both double-pointed & circular needles in sizes US 2.5 and US 1.5 and a cord length of 16″.
I hope these patterns gave you as much inspiration as they did me.
Happy knitting!
